Unless you live in the woods, fixed blade makes no sense for everyday carry. You want people staring at you on the bus like you're nuts?
Get a nice affordable zytel folder with a pocket clip and you're good to go.

| Dawson makes some great blades with fantastic Kydex " mult-positional carries"...along with cross draw and push pokets....and of course....Stryder and Tops blades.....or the Halo if you can afford it...but...ouch. |

In Canada if you curb stomp someone to death its manslaughter, if you stab a person to death, its murder! If you’re going to carry a lethal weapon why not carry a gun already?
Considering the legal trouble that you can get into with knives, one would be better off with pepper spray. If you pepper spray a would-be mugger the worst that will happen is you will get a fine. |

James, the fixed blade has allways been the true personal defense weapon But smaller, the boot knife, the neck knife, the shoulder holster knife, the T handle push knife.
Dawson does have some great knives for all kinds of positions on the body even the inside the waist band with the shirt tuckes in over it.
Folders are good but the small fixed blade will do alot of damage in a trained hand and is deployed alot faster in that tight situation.
don't give up on the fixed blade Keep the 5" in the vehicle as the jacker hacker and find something smaller to carry and get good with it.

hmm - for a small concealed weapon, how about a cylinder of solid steel (cut from some steel rod) that's about 3 and a half incles long and about an inch in diameter. Conceal it in your palm - if you have the right kind of shirt sleeves you can even carry it in your hand all the time. Paint it the exact color of your flesh for added concealment. when the time comes, use it protuding slightly above or below the fist, above for jabs (such as to the solar plexus) and below for 'hammer'blow' strikes to various areas of the body - you could smash down on the point of a guy's shoulder and disable his arm, you could break his collarbone or jaw, or even his sternum with a powerful enough strike. If you soften the edges of the cilinder a bit, you can create a weapon that will do damage without drawing too much blood. _________________ Humans possess a mind as sharp as steel and as dangerous as death itself.

the knife is a great weapon, but more chances of a run in with the law - with this, if you strike right, the chances that both the guy and any witnesses will think you hit him with your fist and just happen to have a damn hard fist. _________________ Humans possess a mind as sharp as steel and as dangerous as death itself.

| My favorite FB are CRKT Companion and the Gryphon M-10.Both are slender and conceal very well IWB.I prefer fixed over folder becasue of less movement to get into action. |

| A knife is the best all around tool/weapon humans have ever carried. Not too many people open envelopes or boxes with a pistol. Legal length blades designed for purposes like hunting or general use are going to draw much less attention than the "super soldier" designs that really don't deliver that much more value. I probably own 90+ knives from penknives to kukri's but usually carry a folder with a 3.5" to 4" blade with a very sturdy lock. My advice on defensive use? The attacker should be unaware that you have a blade until it's too late and then he should have as many holes in him as could possibly be made - Then run! He will not chase you for long. If you worry about the law you've wasted too much time and then your attacker will be worrying about the law. Worrying beats dead. BUT...let's all use the pepper spray first if we can. |
