|

It's a question everyone wants to know "what is the best defense against an armed attacker in the street?". And with the recent and current economic crises and high unemployment rate street crime and and robberies are likely to continue to be on the rise.
"It's Not Worth It Give Them What They Want"
Many robberies or muggings in the street may be done by criminals armed with guns. In this case the best advice is to give them whatever they want and stay calm. Defending yourself against an attacker armed with a gun is difficult and extremely risky even for those who are highly trained. You should only attempt to disarm someone in this type of situation if you believe they will kill you anyway or they try to take you to another location.
"Wrap Your Hand and Get Ready"
Much more common is being confronted by an attacker or robber armed with a knife or broken bottle. Often an attacker in this situation is trying to intimidate you and 'may' back down if you refuse to hand over your wallet. But you are better off cooperating in most situations unless as above you think they will attack you anyway. If you can simply run away and live to fight another day or call the police. But if they seem to be intent on cutting you, it is essential to use anything around you to defend yourself and get anything you can in between you and the cutting edge. Any other cutting object you can find, whether knife or bottle or even a tin can, can even the fight, but getting into such a knife fight can be extremely dangerous for both sides. If you have no choice but to get in this situation and you have an extra layer of clothes, wrap a shirt or similar around your hand so that you don't get cut on your striking arm. But preferably using any type on bat type weapon will give you the edge of having a longer reach than your opponent.
"React Qucikly and Trust Your Training!"
MMA training can help you in these situations, but to be able to react quickly enough in these situation you must have built your muscle memory up sufficiently through constant practicing to be able to act instinctively without needing to think. _________________ Martial Arts Supplies | Taekwondo Uniform |

Don't wrap your hand. The ONLY knife defence methods that work ALL involve IMMEDIATE two-on-one control of the knife hand, so you want grab capability on both hands.
As for #3, maybe you should make sure your disarming tactics are good in the first place. How's that for a start? _________________ blowjoblessons@gmail.com

To keep thing simple, I would say guns, improvised weapons, and avoidance. I would leave empty hand/disarm techniques if those options are not available and you got surprised. And that is much more riskier. But it is much better than dead. _________________ "Everyone has a plan until he gets punched in the mouth"-Mike Tyson |
