Now that the economy is in a downward spiral There is an increase in domestic violence cases across the country. Getting a self defense weapon is a good choice for you ladies but if you don't have a means to get one the best thing for you to do is call the National Domestic Violence Hot line 1-800-799-SAFE(7233) I have seen so many good things come this this organization. The main thing is that you do something. There are too many of you dying as a result of domestic violence. Please ladies...protect yourself at all cost. Get a self defense weapon or pack your bags and get out. He is not going to change until you show him you are not going to tolerate him hitting you and he gets some counseling.

The correct response to being hit by your domestic partner is to leave. Leave the first time it happens. Remember this first time a women is hit she is a victim after that she is a volunteer. Don't think he's going to stop. He does it once , he'll do it again and usually after he has better control over you until you don't think you can leave because he's taken all your self esteem or you know you can't leave because he will find you and kill you. In many cases a restraining order may only make matters worse!
You want to own a weapon? Think long and hard about that choice. You'll need on you know how to use and have the guts to use. You wouldn't want your weapon in the wrong hands being used on you!

Someone said that quitting smoking is easy: in fact, he's done it dozens of times.

Make the same joke about domestic violence (he promised he'd never hit her again... 27 times) and for some reason it's not that funny.

Visit a shelter and get help putting together a safety plan. Then get the hell out.

All I have to say about domestic violence is that it is bull crap.

If you let a man hit you that's fine, but if you stay with him after the fact there is something wrong with you.

There are tons of men and woman out there that don't beat anyone up and would truly love being with someone nice.

Seek help and don't stay with the looser.

Just Google domestic violence and you will find more than you were looking for.

Great advice and suggestions everyone.
Those of you that have been abused, you are not alone. Understanding that you don't think he will do it again and it was a one time "reaction" is very common. Most men that hit you will do it again. Keep that in mind when you are the relationship and don't be an unfortunate case.

MBatcho1, you are an idiot, and I mean that literally.

If you seriously want to help women who have been beaten by partners/husbands, you need to understand them.

That includes understanding their reasons for not leaving.

Is it because they're "nuts"? Well, mental wellness is one variable, but not the only one.

Remember that all behaviour makes sense to the person doing it--even the behaviour of full-blown psychotics. If something seems irrational to us, then we don't understand what is really going on with the person.

Try even studying this stuff a TINY BIT instead of going with your gut reaction of contempt and disbelief, and maybe you'll actually be able to make a difference in the world instead of just blowing hot air on a chat forum.

"When Men Batter Women" by Gottman and Jacobson is a good place to start. SafetyDuo, I think I heard you mention that you're located in Washington state? So are Gottman and Jacobson.
