Ok so I am 20 years old and I am looking for a self defense handgun to purchase when I turn 21. I am a big guy with pretty big hands. I have been shooting magnums since I was 10 so recoil isnt an issue. Im lookin for reliability no matter if its a wheelgun or semiauto(im proffecient with either). I am just looking for some good ideas. I am just browsing for ideas for differnt models and frams and such right now. But like I said I want reliability if I have to fire a follow up(so no Berretta Bobcats or other mouseguns that dont feed well). I also want something that is affordable gun wise and ammunition wise(which is why I am not looking at my favorite .45 ACP for caliber). .38 Specials and 9mm work for me because of performance, but I like the looks of a .40S&W ballistically and im not sure on the price of ammo.

I know something really important is the grips, but something else important to me is the saftey. I need something that is easy to get off quick if its on a semi auto. I am looking for Double&Single Action handguns. But like I said guys, I just want some suggestions for on what to wrap my hands around first. Oh 1 last thing, the pistol will be a Concealed Carry Weapon because I plan on getting a license(I live in Florida so we are pretty good about our gun laws).

We would suggest, S&W hammerless .38. Ammo is cheap, revolvers don't have misfeeds or jams. However, if you are a big guy the grip may feel a little small for your big hands.
Springfield XD and S&W M&P, both make great semi auto handguns that have a good compact feel, in 9mm, .40 & .45 cal.
Walmart sells .40 cal ammo, hollowpoints are approx. $20 for a box of 50 (Winchester). They also have .40 FNJ for about $14 for a box of 50.
Note also the XD & M&P will accept plus P rounds for more stopping power.

Have fun shopping.
