| I'm not athletic or very flexible, but I'm hoping to learn some self defense. Is there one that will be able to give me some skill in the art, but will not be too demanding in the beginning? I've heard that most forms of self-defense require a minimum level of fitness in the beginning. |

I would stay away from traditional arts that will try to mold you into their system. Your best bet is to find a school that will teach you the skill sets that fit you. Play to your strengths. BTW in the street you never want to kick high to the head, so that type of flexibility is irrelevant.

The type of school doesn't really matter. All martial arts have something to teach you about self defense. Don't worry too much about not being flexible. As you continue to study martial arts you'll get more and more flexible. Many of the best martial artists in the world learn several types of martial arts and take the best of them. _________________ www.ledefensetech.com

I agree with everyone above.
Choosing the right self defense is key when you first decide to practice a martial art. Make sure you look at a few before you start any one self defense class.
99% of all instructors will allow you to come and check out the class before you buy. DO IT.
Also if there are three different Karate schools in your area and you think you might like it check them all out.
Its kind of like car shopping, you don't usually buy the first one you test drive.
Find an instructor that makes you feel important and shows a real drive to teach you. That is what you want. You want to feel at home. _________________ Matthew Batcho

Greetings to All! I the instructor from Russia on Russian all-round fighting.
Has got on your forum casually, searched for the information in a world network about that as affairs with self-defence in other countries are.
I see as at you a choice of the best kung fu as it is actual as well as to Russia Considering a language barrier it will be difficult to me to enter polemic, I will try to tell simply about that as it do in Russia.
Many carry with themselves the working tool (wrenches, screw-drivers) in bags or pockets depending on a trade protected and remorselessly start up it in business, especially if attacking it is a lot of, as the weapon such tool do not recognise, so if you have got to police as a result of your self-defence, the imprisonment term will be minimum till 3 years (to prove in Russia, that you were protected practically not probably).
Others are engaged in clubs and sports sections of self-defence, here on the teacher depends, in my system to prepare the efficient fighter probably for 6 months or year is more detailed about system here www.rusbm.ru
If there are questions set.
P.S. Excuse for possible errors in spelling |
