I am really sadened by the number of attacks I see happening across the country to women. In my city alone we see way too many offenses toward unsuspecting women.

Sadly I had a friend, a nurse who came home and surprised a burglar, who in turn murdered her bruitally. Thankfully technology today has enabled some new products that can be life saving for women. One of the most valuable, in my opinion is the wireless home monitor. This monitor detects motion. You can store several phone numbers into this monitor. It will, upon detecting motion dial, say your cell phone. Upon getting this alarm you can call a friend or police so you don't encounter an unwanted party.

I think every female should carry some sort of self defense item in their purse or on their side. Many of the attacks against females can be avoided by simply learning what to look for and becoming vigilent regularly.

Awareness is definitely the first step. We have an awesome "Aggressive Urban Defense" four day course at our fight club for women (and men).

Very sorry to hear that khgut. And yes, awareness is the first line of defense you have.

Sometimes carrying a weapon in your purse is OK, but there are a number of situations in which it isn't... for example, if it is a surprise attack (most are) and you can't get to your purse in time, or if the weapon, pepper spray, etc. is taken away from you and used on you. It's better to get excellent training in how to use your whole body as a weapon in a good martial arts school.

We agree with all that is posted. Most attackers are discourage if acknowledge them with eye contact (of course if it's not a surprize attack). Many women tend to think that if they are on the phone, it makes them less of a target. That is not always the case. In fact, you are more attractive to the assailant as you are not aware of your surroundings.
We definitely encourage self defense products that you carry and in your home. As well as defense courses.
