Hi all, first post.

I am a senior in high school in a smaller town called Apple Valley in Southern California.

I am currently in no martial art but am interested to know what the best one for self- defense is? I don't want to do competitions or anything, just know that I can reasonably defend myself. At this point if someone attacked me and there was no way out I would be screwed, I have never been in a fight in my life. I wish it wern't so but in todays super violent world everyone needs to know some defense.

I know I am a very newbie but I have a thread idea, Self- defense survival stories. You know people who have defended themselves in situations and would care to share.

Anyway, hopefully I can find some sort of self- defense school locally and soon feel better about myself, I just want to know that I can walk down the street and if (God forbid) someone did get me in a situation I could do something about it.

Man, I looked up Apple Valley and... I couldn't find anything street-oriented there. Unbelievable. I'm from Canada, so we think of SoCal as a paradise of martial arts, where every tenth person has a BJJ black belt or does MMA. But of course, that's not how it is in the small towns...

Well, good luck. You may have to do some boxing or get some friends together to train using the resources I discussed on the other threads.

There are some karate and TKD places around here but nothing self-defense oriented as you said. Anyway, I'll join something, any is probably better than nothing.

One suggestion would be that you can get defense videos to learn some basic tactics to help you out.
